Shapely Shapes and Other Consideration: Part IV

 Here's a quicky.

This next composition was basically stuck in a black garbage bag with all of the other cardboard shapes I have cut out over the last few years.  All of them patiently waiting until some day when I was 'in the mood' to deal with them.

That day recently came and I was starting to wrap this dude up with old fabric, when I realized I wasn't so gung-ho on its intended arrangement that I thought up some unknown time in the past.  So I started to play around with NOT attaching the bottom set of arches.

Doubled up.

Flip the whole thing over and make the top the bottom.

Then I decided to start stacking the main part on some more rows of arches.

4 rows seems to be the magic number.  However, I haven't tested it with 5, 6, or 7 rows...yet.

 Another little session of playing around with shapes and compositions.

I'm not 100% convinced that I have the proper 'ingredients' present for this one.  Devising it's arrangement might take a lot of trial and error (a.k.a. learning).

Off into the unknown we go.

Shapely Shapes and Other Considerations: Part I

These next several posts are just going to showcase various compositions I come up with just long enough to document with my camera and then I move elements around to other configurations and see what I like best.  Set your expectations to the 'minimal rhyme or reason' setting and everything will make more sense.

I generated this 'tower' of shapes just for fun.

I liked it 73% more once I added that little body at the bottom of the stack.

A Few More Drawings From This Past Winter: Part I

It's going to be a bit of a coin toss for the next several posts as to whether or not I'll post more drawings or fabric-wrapped cardboard compositions.  Buckle up.

Some More Fabric-Wrapped Goodies: Part II

 So I created a large pile of shapes over the winter with the sole purpose of generating compositions once it warmed up and I could start painting in my studio.  Here is just one such canvas/composition.

This was actually the original layout, but then I added a couple more elements to the equation.

Here's the finalized arrangement adhered to canvas and covered with a couple layers of primer.

The Other Shoe Drops. It's Made of Cardboard. And It's A Welcome Change of Pace.

 The other thing I was doing this past winter was hunkering under a couple of blankets while I hot-glued fabric to cu out cardboard shapes.  You shall bear witness.

Here's the pile of things I worked on for the last 5 months.

Here's just a few random ones to give y'all a sense of what they're actually all about.  These are just set down on a primed canvas and photographed so I can test out different compositions/relationships with them.

So here is an example of testing different configurations/compositions/relationships.  I just am using two different pieces and seeing how changing the spacing and orientation of each piece can change the 'vibe' or interaction between them.

.This was just a quick exercise.  At this point, I have NO IDEA if these two pieces will ultimately end up on the same canvas.
