Playtime: Vol. II

I'm finally getting around to adding color to Playtime.

The first pass of colors.

The second pass of colors.

Let's finish this layer with just a couple more colors.

Just gonna let Playtime hang out for a week or two before I begin the second layer.

Roadside Attraction. The 'Others'

I'm not done with the Roadside Attraction series, but probably done for the remainder of 2020.  I still have several pieces for which I need to develop a plan/idea on what I am going to do with/about them.  The pieces in the series that I did do something with are in general, more frontal, and therefore a 'shadow box' seemed like a reasonable solution for how to display them.  But some of them are a bit more '3-dimensional' -in the sense of being experienced as sculpture in the round.

So here are some of the 'leftovers'.  Most of them don't even have titles yet.

This one was just too thick/deep to build any kind of reasonable shadow box for.  By default, it's gonna be a tabletop sculpture.

A dramatic under-angle shot.

This next one just had too many good viewing angles to be limited to frontal viewing.

A full view of the piece.

This one is Roadside Attraction #45: The Continental Divide Heading West.  The ceramic portion of the show is complete...

...it's just the display box isn't complete because I want to have a large(r) carving as part of the piece (diptych) in the lower open area.  I haven't even begun to figure out what the carving will be.

Obvious, this piece is a ways away from being complete.

I don't even know about this next piece.  I kind of want to re-fire it in a taller kiln so I can fuse a 'sign/billboard' on top of it.  Waaaaaayyy on a back burner...

I lost part of this one while loading it into the kiln.  You can read/see more about some of my 'casualties' in a future post. It was a small block, but kind of essential to the piece.  Without it, the piece feels unfinished, so I need to manufacture another element/component to complete it.  That might be nearly a full year before I can get back to this one.

Unsure how all of these will turn out.  Only time will tell.
